Alejandro Macias joined RKL in 2023. Originally form Denver, Colorado, Alejandro moved to New Mexico at a very young age. He was raised by Mexican-immigrant parents in the small town of El Cerro Mission, a predominantly Hispanic Latino community outside of Los Lunas, New Mexico with little to no access to immigration attorneys.
Alejandro graduated from University of New Mexico in 2014 with his Bachelors in both Economic and Spanish. After graduating from undergrad, he worked in the financial industry helping Spanish speaking immigrants with their 401K Retirement benefits and investments. In 2016, Alejandro made a career change and began to volunteer and work as a paralegal for local non-profits in Albuquerque, New Mexico, helping students apply for DACA, SIJS, and Asylum.
During Law School Alejandro was selected as a 2019 Peggy Browning Fellow, a competitive nationwide fellowship program. After being placed at Justice at Work Legal Aid in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he spent 12 weeks representing immigrant clients with wage theft claims under Pennsylvania state law and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
Alejandro graduated with Honors and Clinical honors from UNM School of Law in 2021. After graduating law school Alejandro worked at Catholic Charities of Central Texas in Austin, Texas, where he successfully represented clients before USCIS in San Antonio, Texas and Immigration Courts around the country.
Alejandro also has experience litigating complaints for mandamus, declaratory, and injunctive relief, and APA Judicial Review in the U.S. District Court of New Mexico. Alejandro is passionate about immigration justice, is a former college soccer athlete at the D2 division and was a semi-professional futsal player for the New Mexico Roadrunners. On his time off he likes to run long distances, hit the gym, and go on long walks with his dog Rio.
