Rebecca came to Rebecca Kitson Law from the Santa Fe felony trial division of the New Mexico Law Offices of the Public Defender, where she worked on some of the office’s most serious cases. As one of the few attorneys at the public defender’s office who spoke Spanish during her tenure there, she regularly counseled clients who were in the difficult position of determining how to proceed in their criminal cases in which they faced serious charges, while also having to consider how those charges might impact their immigration status in the US. Prior to working at the public defender’s office, Rebecca worked in nonprofit civil legal services, where she did litigation and advocacy work for clients with cases involving domestic violence, child custody, and consumer matters.
